Job Summary:

As the Manufacturing Operations Manager, the primary responsibility is to oversee and direct all activities within the manufacturing and packaging departments of the production department. The role entails effective management and allocation of resources to optimize departmental performance. This includes overseeing the production process, ensuring adherence to planning activities, and actively participating in the continuous development and enhancement of production processes. Success in this role involves meeting production plans and maintaining the quality of finished products within specified timelines. Additionally, fostering harmonious cooperation, communication, and workflow between the manufacturing and packaging departments are key components of this pivotal position. Reporting to the general manager or senior management, the Manufacturing Operations Manager plays a crucial role in driving operational excellence within the manufacturing establishment.

Duties and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

1. Production Planning and Execution
• Approve and execute monthly production plans for both packaging and manufacturing departments. Develop and implement plans to efficiently utilize materials, labor, and equipment to meet production targets.
2. Workforce Coordination:
• Specify employment and deployment needs in the production, coordinating with the general manager. Manage training activities for manufacturing and packaging department employees, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards and company policies.
3. Documentation and Compliance:
• Assure documentation completeness for manufacturing and packaging departments' systems, adhering to the company documentation system.
• Ensure implementation of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements within manufacturing and packaging departments.
4. Facility Management:
• Manage cleaning and clearance of production areas. Organize communications between different groups in the manufacturing and packaging department.
5. Performance Reporting and Problem Resolution:
• Report and provide feedback on production performance, conducting complete investigations and proposing suitable solutions. Manage the internal planning of all production activities and ensure their implementation.
6. Maintenance and Validation:
• Participate in machinery maintenance plans and machinery specifications and selection. Participate in the validation of manufacturing procedures and process validation.
7. Production Oversight:
• Follow up on production requirements and ensure they are met. Start and stop manufacturing and packaging activities in the factory if urgently needed. Participate in production scheduling in the factory.
8. Budgeting and Reporting:
• Plan and manage the establishment of the departmental budget. Present periodic reports to the general manager concerning production department main issues.
9. Supplier Relations and Records:
• Participate in the audit and development of packaging materials suppliers. Arrange for reprocessing if necessary and prepare the needed records for this activity.
10. Delegation and Absence Management:
• Prior to the absence of any supervisor, delegate the proper person to undertake full responsibility or parts of it according to documented delegation.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field, including Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or any related field.
• 5-7 years of experience as a Manufacturing Operations Manager or in a similar role, with ample experience in related industries, encompassing all operations, management, and control systems related to the manufacturing and packaging of pharmaceuticals.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, GMP, validation, and QA requirements.
• Comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety JHSC Training
• TDG Certification, proficiency in OSHA, and knowledge of Ontario Fire Code regulations
• Experience representing the company with the Ministry of Labour, including Employment Standards and OH&S department interactions
• Proven track record of successfully navigating audits with Health Canada, FDA, and UL for our OTC facility, including compliance with Cosmetic GMP ISO 22716:2007, 21 CFR Compliance for Pharma - Master 21 CFR Part 210 and 211, and ISO 9001:2015
• Extensive experience in validation processes such as establishing DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ, SAT, FAT, Cleaning, Process validation, and HACCP ISO 22000:2018 risk assessment.
• Ability to prepare and submit comprehensive engineering reports as per contractual agreements, AutoCAD user.
• Strong project management skills and certification as a Six Sigma.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, complemented by good management, communications, and negotiating skills with leadership abilities.
• Proficient in strategic planning, budget management, and industrial systems.
• Knowledgeable about relevant industry regulations and standards.
• Fluent in English
• Adequate knowledge of computer systems dealing with production work.
