The Production Supervisor will provide supervision and leadership to hourly rated employees’ plant wide. Through these individuals, the incumbent shall ensure that the customer conforming product is manufactured in an efficient manner.
Duties:
• Supervising, coordinating, and scheduling the activities of shift workers engaged in aluminium extrusion, fabrication, and anodization. This includes maintaining established production and quality standards and reducing down time plant wide;
• With the assistance of his/her supervisor, establishing daily production priorities as issued by Production Scheduling;
• In the event of mechanical/electrical problems, requesting assistance from the Maintenance Department;
• Ensuring that employees are assigned proper and adequate job instruction;
• Training and orientation of new hire plant tours.
• Administering the terms of the collective agreement as it applies to his/her responsibilities, inclusive of administering discipline;
• Ensuring that all safety and health issues are addressed in accordance with Company Policy and ensuring the well-being of the employees;
• Tracking injury incidents and making recommendations for Continuous Improvement;
• Conducting the required inventory checks as established by the Company and requisitioning materials and supplies;
• Working on continuous improvement programs to resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity and quality;
• Maintaining open dialogue with all employees;
• Establishing methods to meet work schedules, coordinating work activities with other departments, and actively pursuing assistance from other departments for guidance and input;
• Working as a team member ensuring cross communications and ensuring consistency between shifts;
• Ensuring work instructions are updated and reviewed with all concerned before release;
• Obtaining daily production and quality requirements;
• Preparing production and other reports;
• Maintaining health and safety requirements, inclusive of housekeeping (5S);
• Training staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policies; and
• Maintaining effective discipline and attendance control.
Requirements:
• Completion of post-secondary education in sciences or manufacturing is required;
• 6+ months of experience in metal manufacturing is required;
• Knowledge of the aluminum extrusion business and large manufacturing environments is preferred;
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements for manufacturing operations, specifically hazard identification, hazard assessment, 5S methodology (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize and Sustain), WHMIS safety training;
• Knowledge of Continuous Improvement solutions/ process improvement for manufacturing;
• Ability to plan and organize;
• Ability to communicate effectively and listen to employee concerns
• Ability to spot quality defects in work
